It is important that we preserve the well-being of endangered animals because the extinction of animals have a significant effect on the diversity of life.
In 1973, the ESA established the Endangered Species Act of 1973 and a program to help conserve endangered species. 1574 species were found to be endangered, 599 of them are plants. In addition to that, 351 species were found to be threatened, 148 of which are plants. Petitions are signed by the public and anyone else to include endangered/threatened species on a list of already endangered species. Federal agencies than have to make sure that the steps that are made to ensure the survival of the endangered species do not harm or japardize their well being. Regulations and rules are set to ensure that this happens. Such regulations include an exclusion of any removing of the species from their habitat. Along with that, you are not premitted to import, export, interstate, and foregin commerce the species. Even though it is illegal to import, export, interstate, and foregin commerce species,
it is very diffecult to regulate such unlawful activity.
Endangered Species Products; Earth Explorer02-01-1995 The law was ammended in 1978, 1882, and in 1988. It revised that endangered species should be notified to the Secretary of Interior with respect to marine species which will adressed to the Secertary of Commerce. Once they are notified, it is their duty to list the species as endangered. For a species to be required as endangered, the area where the live or their habitat must be on the verge of extinction.
Several provisions were made to this act. The four major ones include determination of endangered species or threatened species, interagency cooperation, prohibited acts, and finally penalties and enforcement (Endangered 2001). There is a vast number of endangered species through-out the world and here are just a few examples:
